About the Department
Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary field of engineering, medicine and biology. It focuses on the design and maintenance of biomedical instruments used in health sector by combining electronic engineering principles and knowledge of medicine and biology. It utilizes the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical sciences to progress health care treatment such as diagnostics, monitoring, and rehabilitation. Biomedical engineering has recently emerged as a specialized field of study to produce biomedical engineers for the management of medical equipments in hospitals/health sectors according to industrial standards. This includes procurement, preventive maintenance, routine testing, and future recommendations for biomedical equipment. There is ademand for biomedical engineers in but not limited to the following sectors: hospitals, pharmaceutical engineering, rehabilitation engineering, clinical engineering, biomedical instruments, medical imaging, biosensor, implants, and medical device regulations.
Realizing the demand for biomedical engineers in the health sector and medical industry, the QUEST, Nawabshah has initiated a B.E. Biomedical Engineering program. It is a four years {8-semesters) outcome based education(OBE) program accreditedby Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
The program is designed to provide necessary knowledge, analytical and leadership abilities, critical thinking, and ethical values to the graduates to adapt to technological developments and cope with challenges in the health care system. This includes the teaching of courses adequately supported with the hands-on practical training in laboratories by using state-of-the art equipment andmodern tools.
Industrial/Academic Linkages
Biomedical Engineering department recently initiated a process of industrial plus academic collaboration with healthcare sectors for the on• the-field training, enabling students to achieve global sustainable development goals{SDGs).
PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES {PEOs)
The PEOs of the B.E. Biomedical Engineering program are:
1. To demonstrate biomedical engineering knowledge to identify and address the technical problems
2. Toenhance intellectual and analytical abilities in taking initiative and/or developing environmentally sustainable and innovative ideas for technological growth in the field of biomedical engineering
3. To work effectively as a team member or lead multidisciplinary teams while demonstrating interpersonal and management skills and ethical responsibilities
